Hiking is actually just walking in nature. This can be ranging in difficulty, time, and duration. It’s a recreational pastime that is enjoyed by many around the wrong. Some hikes take you through beautiful lush waterfalls and some take you to rubble. Ultimately, it’s an activity that you can fall in love with as we did.
So, what do you need to start hiking?
Planning
Starting off, look for something that is nearby and local. You want to be familiar with the area so that something happens, you know where you are. Do research before attempting a hike on the best time to visit, the distance you will be hiking, and the elevation changes.
When you start off, take your time to observe the landscape and surroundings. Soak it all in and enjoy the outdoors.
Expect The Weather
As weather can be consistent with the forecast, some areas may have erratic and predictable. It is imperative to review the forecast a few days before to ensure that you are prepared. You do not want to be hiking in rain or snow without a jacket. Also, remember to bring something like sunscreen for places with no shade.
Gear And Clothing
As you expect the weather, ensure that you have the proper attire and supplies for the hike. If there is no shade, bring something to cover or bring sunblock. If it’s going to rain, bring a jacket or umbrella. Sometimes, you will need to find out if the terrain is rocky or wet so you will need the proper footwear as well.
Shoes are very important as they make your experience of hiking horrible or awesome. I find that boots can be heavy but are a necessity for rocky trails. I typically wear trail shoes as they have a lot of traction and generally lighter than boots. Ultimately, find something that works best for you.
Food And Water
For any hike, plan ahead on what to bring for the journey. You will find out through experience of what you need for how long of a hike as well as how challenging a hike is.
Before any hike, always eat and hydrate to ensure that you are energized for the hike. Snacks are good for hikes that are less than 2 hours. Food is good for hikes that are longer than 2 hours.
Water is more important than food from my experience. Depending on the difficulty and the weather, water is something I always bring. As you have more experience, you will find out how much water you need in general.
Take The First Steps
When you arrive to the trail, take in the experience and enjoy it. Cheers to making the first steps!
GOOD LUCK!
